Short History:
In November 2015, the Missionaries of Faith in the USA and Canada were convened in Danville, CA for a weeklong meeting and those who were able to attend met with then MF Superiors who discussed the imminent restructuring of the Missionaries of Faith worldwide and how USA & Canada members would become one Delegation. The second week of the meeting involved their respective Provincials and Representatives.
On December 25, 2015, per the Decree of Erection by Fr. Aldo Sperolini, MF, then Superior General and attested by Fr. Jesus Maria Palacios, CM, then Episcopal Delegate from the Vicariate of Rome, the MF Delegation of N America (DNA) was established. Comprising 2 countries - USA & Canada; 5 States - California, Hawaii, Louisiana, Texas & Wisconsin; 7 Dioceses - Austin, Corner Brook & Labrador, Green Bay, Honolulu, New Orleans, Oakland & Santa Rosa; 17 priests & 2 perpetual professed students.
We have had a Convocation in each of the past five years. In 2017, proposals were made to the General Chapter; in 2018, changes to the MCP Program and funds distribution were discussed; in 2019, the approval of the DNA Directory. In 2020, the Convocation was made via Zoom for about 2 hours. Due to varying time zones, it could not be extended. In 2021, we were able to gather in person to discuss the documents and speeches made during MF General Assembly held via Zoom in September and their impact on the DNA. Finally, in 2022 the focus was on the financial status of the DNA.
On January 12, 2022, history was made as Deacon Nguyen Du Truong Hai was ordained to the Priesthood in the Diocese of Orlando. That was the first for the DNA, the first Vietnamese to be ordained by HE Most Rev. Thomas Nguyen Thai Thanh (Auxiliary Bishop of Orange, CA), and the first at St. Philip Phan Van Minh Church in Orlando.
On February 14, 2022 Fr. Carlo Benjamin P. Magnaye was appointed as the new DNA Superior with Fr. Robert Chinnapan (Secretary) and Fr. Judah BenHur Pigon (Treasurer) as his Councilors.
As of today, there are 17 priests at the DNA's current roster. We are currently at the Dioceses of Austin, Green Bay, Honolulu, Oakland and Santa Rosa.
